Most college student have gone through cram sessions, Intense, high-stress study sessions. All this can be detrimental to your health and your exam results. Changing your study habits and adjusting how you approach your classes can make a big difference on your roadmap to success in college. This tips will be a great place to start to being successful in college.

Use Two Books

Have two books which you will use them to write notes. One notebook use it in class to scratch and scribble down everything you can. It doesn't need to look neat and legible. After class during your free time, transfer your notes to your second notebook. While transferring these notes, take your time. Highlight key points, underline or use a different color writing areas your professor emphasized. Look up for definitions and write down questions for the next lecture.

By using the two notebooks, you will easily retain information otherwise you would forget it within days. Writing notes in the second book after the lecture, will keep it fresh in your mind. Plus, when you write things down instead of typing, it leads to better retention, according to the Scientific American.

Have a Study Partner

Some of the friends you have been making in college, let them be your study partners who you will be having regular study sessions. During your study sessions, you can be reviewing the complicated course material and help each other by explaining to each other. Explain these information in form of stories as they will be easier to understand.

Rest Enough

Taking care of your health should be key for you to be successful in college. You can't be successful if you are sick or your mental health is not good. Hydrate, have good nutrition and especially enough sleep cannot be overstated. If you haven't had enough sleep, your ability to remember can drop as much as 40 percent. Sleep well enough each night and stick to the same sleep schedule every night even on weekends.

Know Your Peak Hours

It's important to note that each person has their different peak hours, so there is no one-size-fits all study schedule. A lot of research has been done indicating the best time for studying. You may prefer nighttime studying or even early morning studying. Don't feel pressured to maintain an uncomfortable schedule. Your schedule is up to you, as long as you are getting enough sleep and sticking to your commitments. If your peak hours are at night, make sure you give yourself space and time to sleep in every morning.

Use the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique is a good method for your productivity. This technique relies on 25 minutes of intense work and then a 5 minute break. To try this techniques, set an alarm or a timer for 25 minutes and focus on one task. When the alarm rings, take a 5-minute break, then set another alarm for 25 minutes and work on a single task. After four 25-minute intervals take a long break of around 30 minutes. The Pomodoro technique will help you get more done in shorter periods of time without feeling burnt out. Plus, studying in shorter study breaks are known to improve concentration hence increasing your chances of being successful in college.

Optimize Your Studying Style

If you have a learning style, optimize your studying techniques to suit that style to help you become successful in college. If you do not have a learning style, create one. To find what strategy works best for you, experiment with a few strategies. If you find that your study strategy does not feel like a great fit that combines with the two, find another learning style that will fit the two.

Talk to Your Professor

Develop a strong relationship with your professor. Not just when you are struggling but have open lines of communication with your professor. By doing this, your professor will know you have a vested interest in the class and course material. Your professor might help you if you need letters for recommendation or even applying for scholarships. Build a strong relationship with your professor increasing your chances of being successful in college.

Listen to Some Music

Integrate music into your study sessions. Music enhances brain activity, especially the wordless upbeat songs (lofi music) will keep you motivated without distracting you keeping you focused. When you remain that focused you will increase your chances of being successful in college.

Review Your Notes

Reviewing your notes daily is beneficial for long term retention of your college course material. To retain what you learn in your college classes for a long time, review your notes daily for at least 15 minutes. If you are going through new material try not to skip your review days as you will risk loosing what you have retained lowering your chances of being successful in college..

Sweat and Relax

A lot of research has been done that links exercising with good grades and improved learning and cognitive skills. Exercise first and then study second. Hit the gym or go for a quick walk and catch some fresh air.

When you are done studying relax. Your brain is an organ which should be treated like other muscles. Make sure you get enough sleep so as to not feel burnt out. When you sweat and relax you won't sweat to being successful in college.

Consider a Part-Time Job

You might think having a part-time job will only compound the problem and lower your chances of being successful in college, but you are wrong. Research shows that students who work part-time jobs while in college tend to be successful in college. This is due to the experience they get which improves their time management skills.
